Questions and Answers about Therapy

Q: How do I book an appointment?
A: You may call/text me directly at (954) 546-1387, fill out the form on the contact page, or email me with your name, phone number, and reason for counseling at info@ehammercounseling.com. I look forward to speaking with you!
Q: I am interested in counseling, but find it difficult to make the appointment in the office. Are there other options?
A: Yes. I also offer phone counseling sessions as well as email sessions.
Q: Is the session confidential?
A: Yes. Your privacy is incredibly important to me. In order for therapy to begin to be successful, you need to feel as though you are able to freely share with your therapist. Confidentiality policies are detailed in the forms section.
Q: What will happen at my first appointment?
A: The first appointment is a time to not only discuss your needs and concerns, but to determine if our therapeutic relationship is the right fit. You will want to feel as though you can meet your goals with the therapist you have chosen, and the first appointment is an opportunity to begin to see if you feel you can do that. When making your first appointment, you will be asked if you are self-paying for the appointment or using insurance. If you are using insurance, you will need to provide your insurance information so your benefits can be verified before the appointment. Once you arrive to the office, you will need to fill out an intake form and review the confidentiality policies, if you have not already done so online in the forms section. The appointments last 45 minutes.
Q: Do I have to share everything about myself in therapy?
A: You decide what is shared. Therapy is a process, and revealing aspects about yourself can take time. It is important to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship with your therapist so you ultimately feel comfortable sharing as much about yourself as will help your concerns that brought you to therapy.
Q: Isn't willpower enough for most problems?
A: Resolving issues now has the potential to prevent problems from becoming serious in the future. Seemingly simple solutions, like attempting to just stop doing something or thinking a certain way, may not work. Sometimes navigating and dealing with emotions and relationships takes resources or skills that you may not have tapped into yet and therefore, you may have difficulty solving the problem. Therapy helps build those resources and skills.

Q: How do I pay for services?
A: Payments can be made via check or major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express & Discover) at the time of your appointment. A 50% non-refundable deposit is taken by credit card to hold a first appointment. Cancellations must be made by phone 24 hours in advance of appointment to avoid being charged a full missed session fee for existing clients.
Q: Do you take my insurance?
A: Many people choose to not utilize their insurance benefits and instead self-pay for the sessions. Reasons for this may vary, but many people would rather not have visits documented on their health records. If you would rather utilize your insurance benefits, I will contact the insurance company to find out what is covered and what you will be responsible for upon visit. In-network and out-of-network insurance benefits will cover a portion of the cost of therapy.
Q: Do you prescribe medication?
A: No, I do not. In order to obtain medication, you will need to be evaluated by a psychiatrist.
Q: How often do I attend therapy?
A: Most often people attend therapy once per week. If therapeutically necessary, we can schedule you more often than that.
Q: Can I make multiple appointments?
A: Yes. We can schedule appointments for multiple weeks in advance to ensure you have a time slot with which you are comfortable.
